This is the first image I have ever produced that uses depth of field (having blurry objects in forground and background simulating a real camera lense). However, I think I over did it and the image turned out really blurry. Well, it's my first time! Notice the black hair coming out from underneath the farthest jack. It just ended up being in the texture map. Oh, well, I guess it adds realism.
The background kitchen image was taken from this site: [link]
I wanted to make a picture of jacks, so I searched and found this image as a model: [link]
The ball is especially realistic, looks really plasticky. I'll have to ask you about the background later. It looks almost like it was produced at a different angle from the origional photograph. The blurrying idea is very effective

Wowowowowowowowowow, haha, I can see the hair when it's in full view... Oh, and I like how the ball has that line through it, dividing the halves, makes it look like a plasticky machine-manufactured bouncy ball!

this is nice, though i agree you overdid the DoF, it's a fickle process - you'll find it gets easier over time
the models of the jacks look nice enough; don't worry, it wasn't copying. the ball's material is, i think, a bit too simple; though i can't suggest much to improve it.
the render though is pretty, it all looks fairly realistic; it's just the DoF that really lets it down.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
